About the role
About Collections Enhancement
The Collection Enhancement Project (CEP) is a 10-year project to register and digitise the biological, geological, and cultural collections of the Museum.
The AM’s Cultural Collection Enhancement Project (CCEP) is a significant component of the museum-wide CEP and is a focussed program of specialised works across six collections: (1) Pasifika Collections (2) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands Collections; (3) Aboriginal Archaeology Collections; (4) World Cultures Collection; (5) Archives; and (6) Rare Books Library.
About the Role
The Barcoding Officer works within the Cultural Collection Enhancement Project (CCEP) to barcode the Australian Museum cultural collections.
The role holder will be required to work in various sites in greater Sydney.

You will be paid a competitive annual salary $70,694 – $76,857, plus employer’s contribution to superannuation (currently 11%) and annual leave loading.
About you
We are seeking a Barcoding Officer with demonstrated museum object handling experience and knowledge of professional registration and/or digitisation practice in a museum setting.
You will have:
- Data manipulation and database skills, including data migration and data import/export experience and the use of CSV files; Excel proficiency; file management proficiency.
- An understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and cultural practices and experience working with sensitive material including ICIP and cultural protocols.
- Demonstrated understanding and experience in collection information management and contemporary digital collection management practices including the use of databases such as EMu, Fotoware or similar.
- Holds a current full NSW Driver’s License. The role holder must be prepared to travel between the various sites which holds the AM collections, and to external stakeholders as needed to support the work of the First Nations Collections teams.
